Hello, I teach in inner-city Baton Rouge. Some of my students (5th grade) have such troubled homes that I don't know how to deal with their need for attention during class. Any suggestions?

my best answer is to reach out to their needs, you have now got to step in and be more than a teacher, you have to become the parent as well, the counsellor, the confidant, the friend they need. my address is anointed11@msn.com or isiah13@hotmail.com, hit me up anytime

Right now I am an education major. I was asked this morning if I could help tutor a friend's son who is struggling in Kindergarten with reading. He is going to move on to the first grade but the teacher says he needs to work a lot this summer on learning sight words and other parts of reading. I have some ideas, but I would love some more ideas if any of you have some good ideas and/or tips.

I am A Delta State Student too remember in 314 they talk about labeling things...get his mom to lable things he uses at home every day...bathroom. cups. lights, doors etc...use your picture files to teach him sight words..hope that helps...

My best advice is to make your classroom feel like the safest place they can be..pay attention to their needs and let them know that you are a person they can count on..kids like that trust no one...set aside a time like recess or lunch to give time to those specific kids or just talk to them one at a time..just sit down and talk to them about something that intrests them they will enjoy that so much

I just received my teaching certification in social sciences. I am qualified to teach any subject within social sciences, but would prefer psychology over all. Anybody know of vacancies? I can also teach science and math, too!

I know that a lot of schools are still looking for people. Have you looked at Thornwood high school, District 215. They are in the south/ southwest side of chicago!
