Mechanique was created in 1998 from the heart and mind of a Portuguese designer, Jaime Paiva.
At first, Mechanique started as an experimental/industrial music project, genres those, which influence very much his sound still today. On that period (promo CD The Theory of Pain) he was at the beginning of his musical career, influenced by the electro-industrial/tech-noise scene of London, place where he settled for some time. Dark and distorted sound and drums marked the new born Lisbon electro-industrial scene by the underground hit Red as Blood which remained for some years only available in CDR due to the fact that it never got into the market; nonetheless, it was frequently spinned by radios in Portugal, UK, Netherlands, Spain and Denmark. Mechanique re-oriented his musical directions towards new horizons, evolving naturally to a new genre, having as influence bands such as Front 242, Nitzer Ebb or Coil. Using all his musical background, sometimes real hybrids resulted from his work, sometimes in the edge between House and Industrial, while others were more deep and techy. This way he dedicated himself exclusively to tech-house, house and techno production, with no musical prejudice.
Towards the end of 2001, after being one of the winners of the Future Club 2 Competition, promoted by the Dance Club mag (with the Ecstasense track), a promo got to the Kaos Records and Mechanique was proposed to produce his first record: a maxi album with 3 tracks - Hookers on Dope (K63) , therefore becoming the youngest Portuguese producer with released work, at that time.
Released on May, 2003, Hookers on Dope was hosted in such charts as of the Low End Specialists, Funky Junction and played by Dj Vibe, Danny Tenaglia, Danny Buddha Morales among many others. From 2001 to 2004 he was an active producer, producing more originals and reworks for Kaos Records and, together with Model9000, remixed the pop/rock track "Black & White" by the Wonderland, which was then distributed by Universal Records and included in the soundtrack of the portuguese blockbuster movie "Manô". After this, there was a 3 years pause in his work, lasting until 2006, year in which he restarted his career with Sleepless EP, on Luca Ricci's label Aenaria Records.
Since then he has been an unstoppable producer, releasing original EP's and remixing for multiple labels. His latest productions have been well received and some of his tracks have been charted by The Timewriter, Hernan Cattaneo, John Creamer & Stephane K, Luca Ricci, also generating good feedback and support from many more top artists of today's world scene.
Nowadays he performs as a Live-Act or Dj Set. His international tours have taken him to perform on some of the finest clubs in the world scene, such as D-Edge or Lov.E in Brazil
Since the beggining of 2008 he runs his own label, Benthic Recordings.
Being a new technologies supporter, since 2003 he has been pioneering the use of Ableton Live software in his live performances. His live-acts and dj sets are broadcasted in worldwide radios, maintaining a residency in the Tronik Sessions radio show, while receiving invitations for exclusive sets in other well known radios such as DanceRadio.gr or FriskyRadio.com
