Ever noticed how much this topic is sung about, spoken of, and depicted through the various means of Art in general? You'd think that the person writing [or singing etc etc etc] about it would be able to tell you just what love is all about.
Technically, i guess it's just a chemical reaction. But how many people do you reckon, out of all the ones discussing it through their art, really know what it feels like?
I personally reckon, most people are infactuated with the idea of love. They adore love. They are perhaps delusional in thinking that THE love as it is depicted, that 'happily ever after' cliche`, is actually real, and achievable.
Unconditional love is merely egoistical. You give your utmost to someone to feel good with yourself, knowing that you've done everything humanly possible for the person, and that if they walk all over you, it's their fault for not appreciating you. You want love, to feel good. Making the other person feel good makes YOU feel good. Therefore, love is egoistic.
Let's look at parenthood. "I want a baby" - instictively, it's not about creating another human being who will live his own life, with all its good and bad.... it's not about continuing life on Earth. It's about YOU becomnig a parent. owning another human being. The way the world is today, if we were altruistic, we wouldn't dream of bringing a baby into this world. But no, we WANT to be called 'mum' or 'dad'. We want to feel important, to be protective on our own creature.
Friendship? You act as a good friend so as to be able to say "i'm a good friend. i listen. i help out. i'm always there" etc etc. Ultimately, it IS all about "me me me me me me me".
I do not believe that someone can truly be altruistic without any egostic intention, even if subconciously.
